Drypoint Etching Process-
Step 1- Draw into thick acetate with etching tools. [Can trace over design on paper thanks to clear acetate]
Step 2- Mix ink until easily spreadable and apply to acetate.
Step 3- Work the ink into the etched design, making sure the ink goes into the 'crevasses'.
Step 4- Rub away remaining ink with loo roll and soak paper.
Step 5- Place acetate over paper on the press and put through the press back and forth once.
Step 6- Check print and access ink coverage/quality.
Step 7- Reprint!
Lizard design and test on acetate.
First print of lizard design. I really love the quality of the line and the way that due to applying too much ink, it bleeds a little that creates a really nice texture.
I love the saturation of the colour too.
Not enough ink/paper too dry. Print not consistant although still withholds some of the nice texture.
Test sheet. My faveorite print overall due to the combination of textures and the deep saturation of colour. I also love the slight messyness of the print, which although may not be desired to others, i personally think it almost adds areas of shade of tone to the lines.
I really like drypoint and like lino cutting it can be a quick process and give nice results. I love the texture and the line width and think its an incredibly versatile printing method and could be combined with lino printing to create a really interesting and tactile print.
