Laser Cutting

Laser Cutting Process-

Step 1- Make image into a vector using Adobe Illustrator via live trace. [alternatively create the line drawing in illustrator]
Step 2- Open laser cutting program and assign cut through/engrave.
Step 3- Set up material on the program etc, and turn on laser cutter.
Step 4- Put material onto cutter bed, set up machine and assign bottom left and top right origins.
Step 5- Cut!
Step 6- Watch!
Step 7- Be amazed!

Cut through onto plywood. Laser didnt cut all way through so came out as an engraving, but still looks very nice. I particularly love the burnt edges. hehe

Engrave onto paper. Really nice and clean, creates a very slight impression and would be great to use for creating texture on a flat image. I love the clean lines and the slightly singed brown colour.

Cut through onto paper. Really nice stencil like effect, would be great to then use as a stencil to recreate the design. Could be used for many different things, allowing texture to be shown through or light for example creating really nice illustrations.

Engrave onto black mountboard. Gives a slight impression which seems to glisten on the card in the light. Very feint but really intricate when catches the light and very pretty.

I really love the laser cutting process and would love to play around with it more, creating layers to overlay onto a print for example. I could use it as a stencil as well, or just a stand alone cut out, maybe for a mobile or paper sculpture.
I love the cleaness of it and the fact that you can easily and quickly produce and cut out image with really nice effects.
I would definalty want to continue using it!
